Drawing on the experience gained from producing the films with young people and staff in Pupil Referral Units, the team will create a set of ‘scenario’ lesson plans for PRU staff to use with vulnerable YP which address the issues of risky behaviour which may start online but has very real offline consequences.
These lesson plan can be used as stand alone resources but we will also draw them together to create a unique PRU Acceptable Use Policy 'tool kit' whereby young people participate and ‘own’ the creation of the policy for the Unit. Clearly there will have to be compromise and staff will need to demonstrate how certain restictions and responsibilities have to be drawn up. However, going through the exercises and activities linked to the films themes should lead to constructive dialogue between staff and pupils and produce agreement. For if an acceptable use policy is 'acceptable', surely it must be acceptable to all (including the users!). We believe that this will provide a very useful activity resource and ensure that policy meets practice.
This deliverable will also showcase how drama and film making can be used to help young people and include links to existing organisations who can help provide hands-on training in social media or in using film making with vulnerable young people.
This tool kit is being published by HInton House publishing and will be ready by Spring 2013. Please contact stephen for more information
